Joey Pigza books

April 12th, 2008  Tagged , , ,

I have to start commenting to myself… My sister read Joey Pigza books (by Jack Gantos) to her 5th graders and they would all just crack up laughing. I haven’t read any of the books yet, but I plan to. They sound like my kind of books!

    Hey, Leek! :)

(That’s how I pronounce it in my head. It looks Skandinavian, with that silent “j” thing going on.)

I like this interface a lot, and the graphic of that bird is just SO elegant and cute. I started a blog this semester, too, for many of your same reasons! And, like you, I was slightly dismayed as the “old” posts kept moving downward on the page. You know what? You are kind of right. Pretty much no one will access them. That is how blogs go. They are NOT like websites, where important information is in the forefront. They are more like conversations, where people are not really interested in what you said last week unless they already know you or turn into fans. It’s kind of too bad, but it also echoes the mentality of today, right? Everything is “right now,” in the present, almost more grounded in the future than it is in the past.

My comment is also too long, for a blog. Thoughtfulness SEEMS to be the impetus here in blogland, but I’m not sure it is really encouraged … I’m still finding these things out.

    Signed,
    Taffeta

    Hey Taffeta!
Thanks for reading and commenting! Now that I got my first outside comment, I’m going to try to change the setting so your comments can get posted immediately. I was looking for your comments after class and didn’t see them, so I thought something went wrong. Then when I checked my email, I had messages from Edublogs to approve your comments.

If this was a blog for students, I thought I would want to approve their comments before they get posted. But I’m wondering if I could keep up with it fast enough to keep them engaged. If their comments start piling up, waiting for my approval, the students will get discouraged because they need the immediate feedback. So maybe I should let them post comments without my approval and change it only if it ends up being a problem? I think I can have Edublogs hold the comment if there are certain words that I designate.

Taffeta, I know you know lots of good books! Can you add your own posts to this blog? If so, feel free to add whatever!

Yeah, I agree that you might have to just waive the approval part if you want kids to contribute. I’m thinking of doing a blog this summer with the reluctant reader class I’m teaching. 7th through 9th graders. So many issues to think about, though! I suppose I have to get parental permission, principal permission, and all that.

Ok, I’ve FINALLY (it’s now 6:30) finished setting up my blog! It’s at circdesk.edublogs.org and it’s called Notes from the Circ Desk. Not too original, but hey, I got a good domain name! :)

Thanks for being my second commenter! I still want to create a website, so I can have a link to my blog from the website. There are just too many of these techie things I need to learn; I’m scrambling to catch up w/ the rest of the world!
